How to Knit Easy Baby Blanket With Bernat Baby Blanket Tiny

Need a super quick and EASY crochet baby blanket? I've been playing with a lot of Bernat blanket yarn lately, but I just came across some of their tiny blanket yarn! It's all the soft and squishy we love about the thick blanket yarn but in a #4 weight. I grabbed a couple of skeins of this yarn when I was shopping the other day and whipped up a super cute and easy crochet baby blanket with it. This is the Sugar Crush Stroller blanket and it's a great project for beginners or anyone that needs to make something last minute. So let's dive right in!

I named this blanket Sugar Crush because the colors I used and the way they arranged themselves in the pattern reminds me of crushed up candy canes. It's the fun, sweet, crunchy feeling of biting a lollipop. It makes me think of being a kid and I just love the way the colors played out. The entire blanket is done in double crochet stitches, and because it's a stroller sized blanket, this is a really simple pattern to work. For the border, I used a variation of the reverse single crochet, or crab stitch, by working double crochet stitches from left to right. I'll show you in the pattern how I did that.

The Yarn

I used the Bernat Baby Blanket Tiny yarn for this crochet baby blanket in the colors Wildflowers and Red Barn. It's a #4 medium worsted weight yarn that is 100% polyester. It's machine washable and dryable which makes life so much easier with a crochet baby blanket, and the yarn is even tested for any chemicals that may be harmful to a baby's sensitive skin.

For my blanket, the entire thing was worked holding one strand of each color together just to add a little more red into the color mix and add another layer of squishiness. I picked these up at my local JoAnn Fabrics, but the color selection does vary by location. So be sure to check online at JoAnn or directly at Yarnspirations to see all the colors available.

The full free pattern is written out below. For those who'd prefer to print the pattern and take it with you for on-the-go and to markup as you go, you can buy the inexpensive printable PDF from my Etsy and Ravelry shops. The PDF is formatted without ads or comments, so it's easy to read.

Row 1:With both blanket colors held together, chain 91. Turn and work a DC in each space, starting from the 3rd chain from the hook. (88)

You can make this blanket any size you like. I kept it small and simple because that's what I wanted, but you can easily resize to fit anyone. Check out my free guide to blanket sizes below to get the measurements for common sizes.

Row 2:Chain 2, turn. DC in each space across.

Rows 3-50:Repeat row 2 until the blanket is the desired size. Cut the multicolored yarn and bind off, but leave the solid color attached.

Row 51:With the solid color, SC all the way down the row. Then work 3 SC into the corner, turn and work down the side, working 2 SC into the side of each DC. At the corner, SC 3, turn, and SC along the next side. Continue all the way around and bind off.

For the Border

Switch to white yarn.

Round 1:SC around.

Round 2:Chain 2. YO, and insert your hook into the space on the right, YO and pull up a loop. Finish the DC as normal. Continue working DCs going from left to right until you've worked all the way around the blanket, then bind off. Weave in the ends and trim any excess yarn.

And you're done!

What colors would you make this blanket in? I think the colors Leap Frog and Gray Owl would be lovely together, or Dandelion Skies with Sunflower for something a bit bolder. This worked up so fast and it was a really nice "break" project to work on.

There are always so many projects on my list that I get a bit stuck on the big complicated ones sometimes and don't want to do anything, so it's nice to have something easy like this to work on. Do you guys ever feel like that? If you do, I have a whole post on how I get my crojo back when I don't feel like crocheting.
